The site is the former IML Garage and petrol filling station in the very heart of Ingatestone and within the conservation area. Several schemes were explored. The Historic Building Officers insisted on recreating a traditional terrace of cottages with some accommodation in the roof space. The scheme therefore blends in with the character of the older surrounding parts of Ingatestone. A number of technical issues had to be overcome relating to contamination and the extant fuel tanks. The scheme employs quality materials such as stock bricks, natural slate and clay double cambered plain tiles with lead dormer cheeks. All of which are common to Ingatestone.
